Killbuck Valley Writers' Guild

Notes & Appendices

We are a friendly group and try our best to help one another. Consequently critiquing of others' work is always constructive and never on a personal level. Suggestions are given which the writer may accept or not, with never any hard feelings.

With the broad range of experience on which we can draw, writers can get advice on everything from ideas to plots, characters, settings, dialogue, etc. Also, all aspects of the publishing business, including contracts, self-publishing and e-books.

As a group and as individuals we have attended the Wayne College Writers' Workshop and other similar workshops and conventions (such as Antioch, Malice Domestic and Bouchercon). Some of our members enter various writers' competitions and have been very successful in them.

Below is a sampling of activity enjoyed by the KVWG in past years:

2013

APRIL 6 -- Wayne Writers Workshop  This year we were again winners. KVWG member Bruce Stambaugh took second place in the non-fiction category and Raymond "Buck" Buckland walked off with the prestigious Writer of the Year award.

APRIL 27 -- The Second Annual Poesies Competition to be held at Jitters Coffee House, Millersburg.  Not to be missed!  Jennifer McCluggage took third place and Buck Buckland took first place.

MAY 2 THRU 5 -- MALICE DOMESTIC MYSTERY WRITERS CONVENTION, Bethesda, MD.  Buck Buckland was a panelist at this annual convention.

SEPTEMBER 18 THRU 22 -- BOUCHERCON MYSTERY WRITERS CONVENTION, Albany, NY.   Buck Buckland was a panelist at this annual convention.

NOVEMBER 9 -- We presented our first COMEDY NIGHT. A great chance to try out comedy material, doing a "stand-up" routine (yourself or writing one for someone else). At the Historic Hotel Millersburg (Ohio), Proceeds went to the library's bookmobile fund.

Here are some of our group meeting at Jitters Coffeehouse in Millersburg, OH, in 2013.

APRIL 5 -- Wayne Writers Workshop A group from the KVWG goes to this workshop every year. Last year we were winners when KVWG member Bruce Stambaugh took second place in the non-fiction category and Raymond "Buck" Buckland walked off with the prestigious Writer of the Year award. Join our group to go to this fun affair.

APRIL 26 -- The Third Annual Poesies Competition will be held at Jitters Coffee House, Millersburg.  Not to be missed!  Last year KVWG member Jennifer McCluggage took third place and Buck Buckland took first place.

The COMEDY NIGHT went on to flourish, in 2017 bring-in $1,020 for the local library bookmobile fund. By then it had dropped the "Open Mic" part of the evening and was a set program of established comics; some local and some professional from outside the area. Plans for the next evening are for it to be on Saturday April 14, 2018, again at the Hotel Millersburg. But this will then be a
"Comedy & Variety Night", with other acts complementing the stand-ups.

In the spring of 2018 we also plan to hold a
KVWG Book Signing, featuring books by KVWG members.
